Confusion

[edit]

I've removed this:

Currently, the primary use for these connectors is to add Wi-Fi wireless networking capabilities to a laptop; in fact, no devices aside from wireless network adapters are in widespread use as of late 2004. In the past, modem and network capabilities have been attached to laptops using Mini PCI cards.

as it seems confusing. Which connectors? I suppose Mini PCI connector, but then this is saying that it is only used for wireless and it also used for many other things. Clarification or Oblivion! Piet 10:41, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Relation to PCMCIA

[edit]

How does Mini PCI relate to PCMCIA ? Isn't it a competing standard or not? Both use PCI. Is PCMCIA being deprecated? thanks.

No PCMCIA is not being depricated, MiniPCI is just an internal expansion card, wheras PCMCIA is for hot swappable cards

Most laptops these days come with one MiniPCI and two PCMCIA cardslots afaik...

Feel free to add this to the wiki, I dont know much about these so i dont want to edit it in the wrong place

Release Dates

[edit]

Could anyone provide release dates, Its good to know so I could cross check whether it would be possible that my laptop might have one rather than tearing it open

Other uses

[edit]

One might not that MiniPCI is also used in small form factor pc's like nano-ITX as well as stuff like embedded computers in routers blah blah
